Visiting Thailand without a visa

Entering Thailand without a visa is possible if you meet all criteria below:

a) You are a passport holder from one of the following 46 countries and territories:
Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Laos, Luxembourg, Macao, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Peru, Philippines, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Vietnam

b) The purpose of your visit is strictly tourism.

c) You are in possession of a confirmed flight ticket (an e-ticket is acceptable) to show that you will be exiting Thailand within 30 days of entry.

Please note that open tickets do not qualify. In addition, travelling overland out of Thailand to check-in for a flight from a neighbouring country (e.g., Malaysia, Singapore etc.) does not qualify. (In these instances you will need to apply for a visa from a Thai Embassy/Consulate in your home country prior to departure.)

d) It may be necessary to prepare a proof of living expenses of 20,000 baht (about 600 U.S. dollars) per person or 40,000 baht (about1,200 dollars) per family upon entry to Thailand.

There is no charge if you meet all the criteria above and on arrival in Thailand you will be granted a *30-day stamp. If you don’t meet all of the above criteria, you are advised to contact your nearest Thai embassy or consulate and apply for an appropriate visa before you travel.

(*Please note the new regulations in effect from December 2008 for those entering Thailand by land or sea without a visa who will now only be granted a 15-day stay depending on nationality).

Visa on Arrival

Passport holders from 21 countries and territories* may apply for visas at 24 designated international checkpoints** for the purpose of tourism not to exceed 15 days.
Applicants must submit/show the following:
1. An application form completely filled out with an applicant’s recent photograph (4 x 6 cm) attached.
2. Application fee of 1,000 baht.
3. Proof of living expenses at the amount of 10,000 baht per person (about 300 dollars) and 20,000 baht per family (about 600 dollars).
4. Passport with at least six-month validity and fully paid ticket that is usable within 15 days from the date of entry.

Please note that visitors who enter Thailand with visa on arrival generally cannot file an application for extension of stay except in special cases such as illness that prevents them from travelling.
